About the Winner
When he won, Igor Khavkine was a PhD candidate at the University of Western Ontario, where he was studying quantum gravity. Igor is an avid reader, especially science fiction novels. He lists authors Greg Egan and Gene Wolfe as inspirations. He wrote about fire for his entry because of his interest in technology and “the connection between science and society.”
